She Builds UK was a project inspired by a conversation with my young daughter Jessie. I’d asked her what she’d like to be when she was older, and in response she asked what jobs can girls do?

When I explained that she could be whatever she wanted to be, Jessie said “I can’t be a builder. Only men are builders.”

With funding from engineering giants Aecom and Bechtel, I created She Builds UK; a portrait photography project with the sole aim of inspiring young girls to consider working in the construction industry, by celebrating those that already do.
